What’s Supporting My Immune System This Winter: Acemannan, Mushrooms, and Probiotics
This sick season has felt different for me.
Not because we avoided germs. We absolutely did not. Between my classroom, a child in daycare, another in kindergarten, and kids who touch everything, we’ve had more than enough exposure. If anything, this year should have been harder on my body, not easier.
And yet, somehow, I haven’t been sick all winter so far (knock on wood). That alone feels notable, because that hasn’t historically been my experience.
My kids and husband have still gotten sick here and there, which feels pretty inevitable in this stage of life. The upside is that their illnesses have all been mild, which I’m grateful for. But the bigger shift for me has been how I’ve held up overall. Usually by this point in the year, I’m run down, fighting something, or just waiting for the next illness to hit. This year, I haven’t felt like I’m barely hanging on. I’ve felt steady.
I can’t point to one single thing and say “this is the reason.” But I do feel pretty confident that a consistent routine built around three specific supports has played a role. I’ve come to think of it as my personal immunity stack, something that’s realistic to maintain even during a busy school year.
What’s Supporting My Immune System This Winter as a Busy Teacher Mom
Acemannan (Immun from Alovea)

The biggest change I made this year was adding acemannan to my routine.
Acemannan is a bioactive compound found naturally in aloe vera, and it’s been studied for its role in supporting immune function, particularly the body’s innate immune response. What drew me in wasn’t the idea of preventing illness altogether, but the idea of supporting the immune system so it can do its job more effectively.
I take Immun from Alovea daily, and this is the piece I personally believe has made the biggest difference for me. That doesn’t mean I think it’s some miracle product or that it guarantees you won’t get sick. For me, it feels more like support in the background. I’m still exposed to germs constantly, but my body doesn’t seem to spiral the way it used to. My inflammation markers are way down and it just seems like my immune system is functioning as it should.
This year, I haven’t experienced that familiar slow decline into exhaustion as winter wears on. I’m not constantly pushing through, and I’m not feeling like one more thing will take me out. That shift is EVERYTHING when you are a teacher and a mom.
I also give acemannan to my kids. One of my daughters has dealt with persistent eczema for about six months, and acemannan has been the only thing that has noticeably helped improve her symptoms. It is considered safe for all ages, including babies. If you want to learn more about using acemannan for children, I wrote a separate post that walks through the research and considerations in a neutral, non-partisan way as part of my Well Informed series. You can read it here.
Everyday Dose Coffee and the Role of Mushrooms

If you know me well, you know I am not giving up my coffee. I’m addicted. I just wanted to find a way for it to work with my body instead of against it.
That’s where Everyday Dose came in for me. It blends coffee with functional mushrooms like lion’s mane and chaga, which are often studied for their potential immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory properties. While I don’t drink it specifically “for immunity,” I do think it supports a piece of the puzzle that matters more than we sometimes realize. My energy is steady and it keeps me feeling sharp all day.
Stress and immune health are deeply connected. When my nervous system feels fried, everything else seems to follow. What I’ve noticed with this coffee is more even energy, fewer afternoon crashes, and less of that wired-but-tired feeling that used to hit me mid-day.
I feel calmer, more focused, and less depleted, which I believe indirectly supports immune health by keeping stress levels lower overall. For me, that matters just as much as any supplement.
Seed Probiotic and Gut Support

The third piece of my routine is Seed, which I’ve used consistently to support gut health for a few years now.
There’s a growing body of research connecting gut health and immune function, and I’ve noticed practical benefits. My digestion feels more regular, bloating is less of an issue, and I don’t feel as reactive during high-stress seasons.
This part of my routine feels foundational. It’s not something I notice day-to-day in a dramatic way, but over time, it feels like it contributes to overall resilience. When my gut feels supported, everything else seems to function more smoothly.
Why This Combination Has Felt Sustainable
I’m not claiming this routine prevents illness, and I’m not suggesting it’s the right approach for everyone. Bodies are different, and immune systems are complex. What I can say is that this combination has felt significant for me.
Together, these three supports address different aspects of health that all feed into immune function:
- Acemannan for immune response
- Mushrooms for stress and inflammation support
- Probiotics for gut health
This year, my body feels better equipped to handle constant exposure without tipping into burnout or prolonged illness. Recovery feels quicker. Energy feels steadier. And I don’t feel like I’m constantly one step away from getting sick.
A Quick Note
This is just my personal experience. I’m not offering medical advice, and I always encourage people to do their own research and talk with a healthcare provider if they have specific concerns or conditions.
For now, this routine is something I plan to stick with. This sick season has felt different in a good way, and as a teacher mom navigating a lot of exposure and responsibility, that feels worth sharing.
